Annotation | One's first experience of education is liable to colour subsequent and lifelong expectations of education. This article reflects on the link between learning in later life and previous educational experience related to the impact of socio-economic forces on age cohorts of differing social class and gender. It reviews research in progress which makes comparisons between some different learning contexts for older people in Scotland. Contexts include self-help or co-operative models, formal adult education, and independent older learners. Using learners' subjective experience of the various contexts and considers motivation and barriers to learning within different cohorts. The work will include a critical evaluation of teaching methodologies and propose a framework for development. (RH). |
