Annotation | Knowledge, attitudes, and behaviours regarding HIV and AIDS for persons aged 50-64 were explored in this study by using data from the 1996 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System. The study examined what percentage of persons had been tested for HIV, where and why they had been tested, their knowledge about condom effectiveness, and self-perceived risk. The authors conclude that the conceptual model used on other groups in relation to HIV/AIDS was less robust for this group, and that there is a substantial need for health promotion efforts directed at older adults.
