Annotation	This summarises DSS Research Report no.98, which provides a comprehensive picture of the nature and extent of pension provision made by private sector employers in Great Britain in 1996. It includes details of any changes in provision in the years preceding this survey. The research, the second in a series of surveys (the first one was for 1994), was carried out before the implementation of the Pensions Act 1995, and provides baseline information that will contribute to evaluation of the Act and subsequent pensions reform. This summary outlines findings on types of pension provision, coverage of pension provision among employees, reasons for non-provision, and recent and expected changes. (RH).
