AnnotationThis Guide is designed to provide a comprehensive picture of current statistical output by government department, agency or other organisation. It also provides a directory of all the press releases, publications, databases, CD-ROMs, and other services which are managed by statisticians working in the Government Statistical Service (GSS). This edition of the Guide emphasises access to statistical material now available via online services. (There is a chapter on websites and electronic services). Therefore the Guide now uses the same classification system as StatBase, the GSS information service which is accessible (and free of charge) via their website: www.statistics.gov.uk StatBase is more current than the Guide and should be consulted for the fullest coverage of all GSS's statistical resources. The Guide however is divided into seventeen chapters covering "themes", each of which covers a major aspect of national life. Of the most relevant are chapters on Population, census, migration and vital events; Health and care; and Household finances. (KJ).
