AnnotationCan staff training and development improve residents' well-being? In the first of a two-part report on an action research project in a nursing home, the authors describe the assessment and initial training phase. The main outcome measure for resident well-being and quality of life used in the project was the Dementia Care Mapping (DCM) methodology developed by Tom Kitwood and colleagues at the Bradford Dementia Group. While the extent to which DCM is a measure of quality of life rather than quality of care is debatable, the authors contend that in a residential context the two domains converge. (RH).
