Annotation | The use of various psychological interventions for people with dementia has been discussed since the 1950s. The authors report on the development and initial evaluation of an evidence-based therapeutic programme for people with dementia. This involved, first, a systematic literature review of validation therapy's effectiveness, results of which suggested the need for more randomised controlled trials. Next, the authors developed a systematic process for identifying and extracting the most effective elements from each intervention. These elements were integrated into the development of an "evidence-based" therapy programme for people with dementia. Results of the initial 17-session, twice-weekly programme conducted at a day centre in Essex are summarised, with plans for its future development. (RH). |
