Annotation | In this first of three articles, the authors review research into use of the arts - whether therapy or activity - in dementia care. They focus on music, the art form where most work has been done so far with people with dementia. They examine the use of music therapy as a discipline, and the effect of music on particular aspects of the behaviour and psychological functioning of people with dementia. Some accounts of music activities with individuals and small groups consider the use of music outside any notion of therapy. (RH). |
