AnnotationAs we grow older, what sources for inspiration, revitalisation and sense of purpose sustain our optimism and determination? Articles in this issue of Generations are organised around three interrelated approaches to meaning and value in later life. Firstly, the individual's capacity for self-transformation and adaptation in later life. Secondly, shared social or cultural meanings of ageing. Lastly, the search for personal meaning and renewal on the part of service providers, and gerontological scholars and researchers. While contributors do not offer a blueprint for the construction of meaning, they suggest a variety of frameworks that help us to re-examine personal and professional goals and assumptions about the ageing process.
