AnnotationGerontology covers a variety of individual disciplines, including social, economic, political, and biomedical. This collection of papers aims to promote disciplinary cooperation in ageing research and practice, by looking at issues that have both social psychological, and practical policy significance. The first section includes chapters on psychology's contributions to gerontology; a social psychology of the life cycle; and clinical and health services delivery research. The second section of the book highlights key substantive issues, including intergenerational relationships and ageing; interdisciplinary healthcare; organising chronic care: the value of organisation theory to gerontology; and nursing homes and the long-term care market. In the final section, some patient care concerns are covered, including progress and priorities for age-related cancers; communication and social interaction with Alzheimer's disease patients; urinary incontinence; and mobility impairment. The book concludes with an examination of the barriers to and potential for an interdisciplinary research agenda in ageing. (AKM).
