AnnotationListening to the views of older people to improve the quality of service provided in nursing and residential care homes should be central in all such provision. This article describes a study based on a random sample of residential care homes in Manchester. Eighty-six residents from 45 homes participated in focus group meetings. The key aspects of good quality care in residential and nursing homes were reported to be activities, opportunities to go out, and a choice of good food. Some of the recommendations made by the residents were already in the service specification on quality in the City of Manchester's contract, other recommendations were incorporated as amendments.
