Annotation | Public policies regarding the participation of older people in voluntary work in the US, Australia and the Netherlands are described and contrasted. Data were collected in 1997-1998 through analysis of policy documents and through 50 interviews with researchers, policy-makers and volunteer co-ordinators. The study found considerable differences between the three countries' government policies and programmes for older volunteers. It was concluded that such differences could be explained in the context of how policy-makers in each country defined older people's participation. (RH). |
