AnnotationSatisfaction with placement following discharge from a geropsychiatric unit and factors contributing to that satisfaction were rated by 80 patients and/or their primary caregiver within one month of discharge. Participants were generally highly satisfied with the time and effort spent by the treatment team and about half considered themselves very involved in the discharge planning. Among the 44 patients who were discharged home, the factors most commonly associated with satisfaction were the availability of familiar caregivers and familiar environment. The most common factors associated with satisfaction with discharge to a nursing home were more care provided and more caregivers available. Among the participants discharged to home, the factors most commonly associated with dissatisfaction was high cost. Factors associated with dissatisfaction with discharge to a nursing home included unfamiliar environment and high cost. (AKM).
