Involving users and carers in developing standards for mental health services for older people | Author(s) | Jill Manthorpe |
Journal title | Managing Community Care, vol 7, issue 6, December 1999 |
Pages | pp 30-31 |
Keywords | Psychiatric treatment ; Standards of provision ; Participation ; Consumer ; Informal care. |
Annotation | This commentary on the previous article by Finch and Orrell questions the validity of use of consensus or focus groups. While there may have been some value in noting the needs of informal carers, user and carer consultation could easily become a passing fashion if users and carers feel that their views are collected but not listened to. Carers, users and professionals would not necessarily share similar views. (RH). |
