AnnotationThe range of disorders of old age thought to be amenable to drug therapy is increasing; and most of the increase in prescribing since the 1980s has been in drugs for older people. The papers presented at the symposium fall into two groups. The first expands on some general principles: concerns with side effects; and patients and their general practitioners (GPs). The second group focuses on the management of three of the most common and clinically important diseases of old age: dementia, arthritis, and osteoporosis. (RH).
