AnnotationThe major cardiovascular diseases reviewed in relation to nutrition are coronary heart disease (CHD), cerebrovascular disease, and peripheral vascular (arterial) disease. Information is provided on trends in death rates from CHD in England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, with some comparative data for the 15 highest ranking countries in 1978. Recommendations are made concerning: fat and fatty acids; common salt; dietary fibre and complex carbohydrates; and obesity. (RH).
