AnnotationThe Volunteer Service in Health Promotion for the Elderly was set up as an experimental health promotion project in Hong Kong. The main purpose of the project was to help empower the ability of older people to explore social and personal resources as well as physical capacities for promoting their quality of life. Volunteer health promoters provided intensive care and guidance for ten older individuals facing the deterioration of self-care capability and the unavailability of family support. The health promoter was responsible for needs assessment, development of a health education service model, training of volunteers, and evaluation of service output. The formation of a case management team also helped to facilitate the service quality during the process. The project highlights the use of volunteers in health promotion with older people, and also the value of collaboration between different disciplines. (AKM).
