The impact of smoking in elderly people | Author(s) | Norman J Vetter |
Journal title | Reviews in Clinical Gerontology, vol 9, no 3, August 1999 |
Pages | pp 273-280 |
Keywords | Tobacco smoking ; Research Reviews. |
Annotation | Smoking has been closely implicated in many cardiovascular, lung and other diseases which are prevalent in older people, but most prevention programmes tend to be aimed at younger age groups. The overall message of this review is that older people are as receptive to direct help to give up smoking as younger people. There are benefits to society if older people stop smoking; and an older person who successfully gives up smoking gives a very strong message to stop children who are particularly vulnerable. (RH). |
