Annotation | The identification of older people as a sub-group worthy of study and care did not occur in the US until the 1950s. More formal research in psychiatry began in the 1970s, and was paralleled by development of centres of clinical excellence. Since then, there has been a broad research agenda in geriatric nursing, psychology, social work and psychiatry: the focus has been on psychosocial, behavioural and biological aspects. Psychogeriatrics in the US has been and remains multidisciplinary. (RH). |
