AnnotationAn observational cross-sectional study of 106 patients aged 70 and over admitted to five general medical wards in a university hospital in the Netherlands found that a severe adverse drug reaction was present in 25 (24%) of them. 13 patients (12%) were admitted probably because of an adverse drug reaction. Risk indicators were a fall before admission, gastrointestinal bleeding or haematuria, and the use of three or more drugs. (RH).
