AnnotationThe authors focus on results from several years research in a variety of communities in regional Australia to suggest that there is a divide in the experiences of older Australians who live outside metropolitan or regional city settings. They examine the policy assumptions underpinning the governing of the rural aged, specifically "self-reliance". They argue that policy influences are wider than just the traditional forms of health or social security, e.g. regional development and transport. They consider the experiences of those who are ageing "on the land", not only ageing farmers but also the next cohort of "baby boomers". (RH).
