Annotation | The Dumfries and Galloway region is acknowledged as a popular area for retirement: by 2005 there will be an increase of 15% in over 75s, and a 25% rise in over 85s. The main issues affecting the region's community care and health planners are: the rural nature of the area; health, social and housing inequalities; and planning for a more knowledgeable and challenging ageing society. SHAS has identified the need for a review of how future services for older people will be integrated across the spectrum of services from specialist to general practitioner (GP). The inspection found many examples of good practice. Services are described as follows: planning and commissioning; leading and managing the service; quality of care; quality of life for patients; and site profiles. (RH). |
