Annotation | Gerontological research on countertransference and older people has demonstrated that when practitioners are unaware of their countertransference they may be unaware of the experiences, strengths and challenges of older clients, and they may also be judgemental. This paper describes a method that has been effective in helping students, paraprofessional counsellors as well as mental health professionals identify countertransference reactions in themselves. The technique can be used in a variety of work settings, such as classrooms, mental health clinics and multi-purpose centres for older adults. (AKM). |
