Annotation In Indian society, care of older people is the primary responsibility of the family. However, due to various socioeconomic reasons, there have been reports of evolving disparity in perception of problems and issues pertaining to old age and ill-health by older people and their caregivers. This study aimed to assess perception of the family environment by 100 older persons with chronic obstructive airway disease and their primary caregivers, using the Family Environment Scale (FES). Findings revealed significant agreement between perceptions of older people and their caregivers in all aspects of family environment. The study concluded that the family environment of this group of older Indians was supporting and caring during health and illness. (AKM).
