Annotation | Japan is said to be one of the most rapidly ageing societies, with one in four people expected to be over the age of 65 by year 2020. In addressing the enormous social and economic challenges to provide adequate care for the increasing aged population, there is considerable research into advanced technology for aged care. This paper introduces robotics technology research to be utilised for care and rehabilitation. Although this technology may be impressive and may also prove to be economically viable, there are questions as to how such technology should be evaluated and implemented so that the best possible care can be provided. The challenges involved in the use of robotics technology in care and rehabilitation are discussed. (AKM). |
