AnnotationThe roles of gerontological nurse specialists and gerontological nurse practitioners are well established in the United States and Canada. In the UK, there has been very little gerontological nursing development to date. In this article, the author outlines the roles of gerontological nursing, and argues that concerns of older people, changes in healthcare and developments in nursing mean that there is a need for specialist nursing roles with older people.
