AnnotationThere are some 4 million Americans with Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia, most of whom are treated at home for a significant, if not the entire, course of the disease. This study analyses the relationship between home-based dementia care and its environmental context as seen through the eyes of family caregivers. The study considers the following key issues: behavioural problems confronted by caregivers in their homes and the strategies used to solve them; how the needs of the caregiver and the care recipient changes over time as the dementia progresses; environmental obstacles and the home modifications implemented to address them; and the overall impact of the physical setting of the home on caregiving as the main focus.
