AnnotationThrough intergenerational contact, studies show that younger people and older people can enjoy many mutual benefits. This article examines the effects of an intergenerational project on the attitudes of emotionally disturbed younger people toward older people, on which there is little research available. The project involved 36 older people from 3 sites in the community and 9 adolescent boys from a residential treatment centre for disturbed younger people. The project included a classroom curriculum and corresponding visits with older people at the community sites. The students' attitudes to older people were measured at the onset and conclusion of the project. The results indicate that their attitudes toward older people were less positive after the intergenerational experience. However, their evaluation of the course was very favourable. Future studies should include a larger sample of students and older people, with more varied methods of measurement. (RH).
