AnnotationLiterature on early onset dementia indicates that younger people can have very different care needs to those of older people, and that the dementia's progression is more rapid. This study was commissioned by Newcastle City Health Trust to evaluate the Lewis Project, set up in response to lack of specialist provision. Evaluation collected data from interviews with clients and carers, the Lewis Team, and stakeholders (a steering group and potential referrers). The findings raise questions about whether the level of service provided, with its ability to respond to individual needs, should be restricted to younger people, or whether older people would also benefit.
