AnnotationThe International Symposium on Ageing and Health: a global challenge for the 21st century, was organised by the World Health Organization (WHO) Centre for Health Development (WHO Kobe Centre) and held on 10-13 November 1998. The aim of the symposium was to define issues that will govern the situation of older people in various societies in the 21st century, and to suggest ways to improve their health and welfare. This volume summarises the papers and discussions of the symposium. Main topic areas covered include: ageing, society and health; ageing and social change; support and care for older people; and economics of ageing and financing of care. In addition, there are country reports from Argentina, Europe, South East Asia, Australia, China, Japan, and the Philippines. Finally, a number of short reports covering various health topics, and reports from the working groups are included. (AKM).
