Annotation | The perceptions and experience of ageing are examined of residents of the Boikucho Old-Age Centre outside Bloemfontein in Orange Free State. Data collected from selected residents show that their perceptions and experience of ageing are mainly negative. This negativity is directly related to their self-conceptualisation, which is influenced by factors, such as their immediate circumstances and the social environment. The negativity must be understood within a broad traditional socio-cultural context. (RH). |
