Annotation | In 1998, Age Concern Organisations (ACOs) in North West England met to discuss the use of "screening" in determining what level of assessment is most appropriate for service users in the region. Research carried out by the North West Community Care Commissioning Group (a committee of Age Concern in the North West) has revealed that "screening" by social services departments (SSDs) is denying older people the assessments they should receive according to the law. Screening or pre-assessment procedures should be transparent, and rights of assessment made clear. Age Concern Cheshire has published this research as "Access denied? The use of pre-assessment procedures by local authorities in North West England". (RH). |
