Annotation | The overall objective of a Health Strategy for London is to improve the health and quality of life of Londoners. The NHS Executive London's Regional Director of Public Health outlines the opportunity that exists to develop a health strategy for London, the strategy's aims and benefits, London's main health issues (including inequalities), and the main determinants of health and their impact on people's lives, health and well-being. She also discusses how these issues can only be dealt with by joint working, and how we measure whether the work being done is making a difference. Her suggested framework includes: values and social ethics to underpin the framework; health improvement; health protection; wider health issues (e.g. housing and transport); and addressing inequalities. The paper concludes with future priorities. (RH). |
